Product and origin control in the paper and wood product industry
SQS certifies product standards in wood processing companies.
The FSC® acronym enjoys high levels of acceptance with consumers and the general public. The Forest Stewardship Council® is behind this. It was founded in 1993 by environmental groups, indigenous peoples and businesses in the forestry and timber industry as a global, independent, non-profit organisation. All natural and legal persons can become members. The main role of the FSC is to establish internationally accepted principles and criteria for environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable forest management. The FSC COC certification ensures that wood products are supplied to consumers from well-managed forests and other controlled sources. The certified company can use this to prove that the transparency in the procurement of wood resources is given high priority and that wood from well-managed forests is preferred. The certificate improves the image of the business and facilitates access to new markets.
International standards
As an accredited certification organisation, SQS is recognised worldwide as an inspecting body for FSC COC certification. FSC COC certification is possible for wood-processing companies. In wood-processing companies and paper, printing and packaging industry companies, certification pursuant to FSC COC standards attests that a product has originated from well-managed forests and other controlled sources. This can lead to the general improvement of controls over the flow of goods within the company.
Environmental protection and sustainability
The FSC label can be beneficial for any business that has integrated management systems, creating interesting synergies. The focus is on standards ISO 9001 (quality management), ISO 14001 (certification of environmental management systems) and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety protection). But the PEFC COC and BRC/IoP combination is also useful. SQS also offers a range of other tailor-made assessment and certification services that demonstrate high standards of environmental protection and sustainability. These include energy management systems pursuant to ISO 50001, the validation of environmental and sustainability reports as well as the EcoEntreprise sustainable assessment model.
